Unit 4:Types Of Information Practice Questions and My Composed Questions.

For this assignment I will attempt to match informational resources that can be used to support stated questions. First will be the practice questions given in the assignment and then I will acknowledge sources that may be used for the research questions that I composed in Unit 3.

Practice Questions
1. Is a vegetarian diet healthier than a meat-based diet?
Resources that I would use to gather information about this topic is first, Academic Journals. This would be a good resource because it would be written by scholars or experts of the field and most likely a journal /article dealing with the exact topic would be easy to locate.  In fact, I am sure that there would be a few journals/articles to choose from which would allow the data to be compared. The second source I might use is a Book. Since I just took a health class dealing with nutrition last quarter; I would use the text book that was required from the class or another book that would deal with the comparison topic stated.

2. Target often forces musicians to alter lyrics in order to have their CDs sold in Target stores. Is this censorship?
For this question, a resource that I would use is  Subject/Academic Encyclopedias because they would allow me to examine or define the definition of censorship while getting an overview of the topic. I would also probably examine censorship cases using Academic Journals and Books.  I might even try to locate current information dealing with Target using Web Sites. These sources would have to be examined closely for credibility.

3. How much more can a college graduate expect to earn over someone with a high school diploma?
For this question resources  that I would use are Academic Journals Primary Research  and Statistics References and Online Sources. All should be able to provide statistics and data supporting current information dealing with this comparison question. I may also look for current articles in Magazines and Newspapers dealing with this issue due to the current economic situation.

4. Should educators use commercial services to combat plagiarism.?
This is an interesting topic. It is stated in a way that supports an opinion. Immediately, resources I think of using that deals with opinions are Magazines and Newspapers because they offer editorials and commentaries on such a topic. But after further thought I might also use Books and E-Book because they can contain summaries supporting such a statement.

5. Is the current lack of sunspot activity affecting the global warming?
The first resource I would use are Academic Journals because they would provide in-depth research information  on the subject and because most likely there would be more than one Journal on the topic.  I  would also use Subject/Academic Encyclopedias because they would give me background information on the topic.

Unit 3 My Composed Questions on Privacy

1. How has privacy been effected by technology?
One resource I would use to research this question are Subject /Academic Encyclopedias because both privacy and technology could be clarified while obtaining an overview of both topics. Then I would examine Academic Journals to locate In-depth Research on this topic. Lastly, I believe I would use Books to gather  a historical perspective,  in-depth information and current analysis of the situation at hand.

2. What privacy concerns arise from using the Internet?
For this question I would start with  Newspaper and Magazine articles because of the current issues that have been brought to the forefront due to postings on Face book, My Space, and Twitter accounts, such as suicide, bullying, and lawsuits. I would also use Books because of the in-depth treatment of information they may offer.

3.  What steps should be taken to secure ones privacy when using the computer?
For this question I would probably use Books and Reference Books or Manuals to explain the steps to take to secure your privacy when using the computer. I may use Manufactures Manuals or Directions that come with programs that you purchase for the computer or Web Sites that are associated with the Programs, Systems, or the Manufacture of the Computer you have.

  1. Emily;

Great job, you described the resources and what you'd expect to find in them to answer each question. As you get into the research, your resources may end up changing but this assignment is another "presearch" before you start your research so you've thought about your topic and how to answer it.

    Thank you for your efforts,
    Andrea
